Rubber & Plastic Airbag Sourcing Guide: How to Avoid the Three Traps of Air Leakage, Aging, and Odor

Airbag products assume the core functions of pressure transfer, sealing or power output in medical, industrial and high-end consumer products.

Once the airbag fails, not only is the part damaged, but it is more likely to lead to the collapse of the entire system or damage to the brand reputation.

In the view of Fuli Rubber & Plastics, understanding the technical logic behind these “common diseases” is the first step to achieving high-quality procurement.

I. Air leakage: "fatal injury" of the airbag

Air leakage is the most intuitive and intolerable quality problem for airbag products.

In actual manufacturing, air leakage is usually caused by the following three factors:

Closing line defects:

Rubber-plastic airbags are mostly molded. If the mold accuracy is insufficient or the clamping pressure is uneven, the surface of the airbag will produce obvious “fly edges” or weak clamping lines.

During repeated squeezing, these weaknesses are most likely to produce micropores that are invisible to the naked eye.

Loose material (stomatal):

Low-cost rubber or PVC raw materials tend to contain more impurities and are prone to internal bubbles (trachoma) during vulcanization or molding.

Loose joints:

The connection of the airbag to the valve or trachea is a high risk area for air leakage.

If the hardness at the interface is improperly matched or the forming size tolerance is too large, the air tightness will fail.

Fuli Rubber & Plastics Countermeasures:

We use high-precision molds and integrated molding processes to minimize clamping traces.

More importantly, we carry out a rigorous airtightness check on each batch of products to ensure that each blood pressure balloon or airbag sent to the customer achieves “zero leakage” at rated pressure.

II. Easy aging: determine the hidden cost of product "life"

Many airbags perform well at the beginning of the purchase, but become hard, brittle, or even cracked after several months of storage or use.

This is the typical “aging” problem:

Formulation defects:

This is the root of aging.

In order to reduce costs, some factories will overuse inferior fillers to reduce the proportion of antioxidants.

Poor environmental tolerance:

Different use environments (such as ultraviolet radiation, high temperature, low temperature) have different requirements for materials.

If ordinary rubber is substituted for oil-resistant rubber or UV-resistant materials, the product will degrade rapidly in certain environments.

Internal stress not eliminated:

After molding, there is no reasonable aging treatment, and there is great molecular stress inside the airbag, which will evolve from microscopic cracks to macroscopic cracks in repeated use.

Fuli Rubber & Plastics Countermeasures:

We emphasize “Idea-driven Materials”.

We tailor our material formulations to the customer’s specific application environment.

For example, for outdoor doors and windows airbags, we will add a higher proportion of anti-UV factors; for medical-grade blood pressure cells, we use high-purity natural rubber to ensure that it remains as elastic as before after tens of thousands of extrusions.

III. Odor: Neglected User Experience and Health Risks

Odors are not only sensory displeasure, but also often presage excessive levels of VOCs, which are never allowed in the medical and beauty industries such as perfume airbags.

Use of inferior auxiliaries:

The use of low-end plasticizers (such as phthalates) or high sulfide residues in the production process can cause the product to emit a pungent chemical smell.

Missing odor removal process:

If the rubber and plastic products are not subjected to secondary vulcanization or special deodorization after molding, the odor of the raw material itself will remain for a long time.

Cross-contamination:

If the production line is mixed with materials or the environment is not clean, it can also cause the airbag to absorb odors.

Fuli Rubber & Plastics Countermeasures:

We strictly adhere to environmental standards and eliminate inferior plasticizers from the source.

For customers who are extremely sensitive to odors, we provide a deodorization process to ensure that the product not only meets the functional standards, but also meets the user’s delicate perception of health and quality.

IV. Procurement Pit Haven Checklist (Visual Guide)

To help you make quick judgments when purchasing, we’ve put together this actual quality checklist:

Quality begins with a reverence for detail

At Fuli Rubber & Plastics, we never think of an airbag as a simple “consumable.”

It is part of precision medical equipment, a line of defense for industrial systems, and the first impression of the brand by end users.

Through stand-alone stations, we provide not only these products, but also expertise in air leakage control, anti-aging materials, and environmentally friendly odorless products.

We are convinced that only when customers understand the causes of these quality problems can we better evaluate our manufacturing value.

Fuli Rubber & Plastics, to solve your worries, so that every place of pressure transmission is accurate, long-lasting, pure.
